North Treasure Coast Chapter Receives $11,975 Grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation
Our Chapter has been notified that we are the recipient of a $11,975 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation, for the acquisition of special-needs cots for use in local shelters, and for volunteer recruitment. The North Treasure Coast Chapter is one of 128 Red Cross chapters awarded funds as part of the Wal-Mart Foundation's initiative to support disaster resonse and capacity-building projects nationwide.
Special-needs cots allow us to better provide for the needs of the frail and elderly in shelters opened in time of disaster. Volunteer recruitment is always a priority, and we will be holding recruitment fairs in our Port St. Lucie office on June 13, and at our Vero Beach office on June 27.
The Wal-Mart Foundation partnered with the American Red Cross to create a $5 million grant tol benefit communities nation-wide that reside near Red Cross chapters located in remote areas that often become isolated during disasters, and whose chartered jurisdictions serve fewer than one million people -- chapters like ours.
"We are appreciative to the Wal-Mart Foundation for this much-needed grant to enhance our local chapters' ability to serve their communities", said Michael Brown, Vice President of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships at the American Red Cross. "Because of their generous support, we will be better positioned to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters in communities across the country."
