North Treasure Coast Chapter Assists with Virginia Tech Tragedy
Sharon Rayner, Emergency Services Director, is working as the Mass Care Officer in Virginia. George Douglas is a widely experienced volunteer supporting mass care activities at the American Red Cross Disaster Operations Center in Washington, DC for this event and the other Red Cross responses, including the floods in the northeast US.
The American Red Cross is responding to the tragic events at Virginia Tech, with trained mental health workers on the scene providing compassionate support and psychological first aid to students, parents, teachers and other community members. American Red Cross relief workers remain on the ground with the Virginia Tech community, providing not only emotional support but also a support center where loved ones, local responders and university members can go for information, resources and snacks. The Red Cross will continue to work with the Virginia Tech community and first responders to ensure that individuals and families can get the compassionate support they need following this tragedy.
