Our New Communications System

Satellite Communications SystemOur chapter is the grateful recipient of a new satellite-based communications system provided by the American Red Cross. These systems were given to chapters in disaster-prone areas across the country. It provides telephone and internet capability when all other communication methods have failedt.

Our emergency generator will provide the electricity, and the dish will automatically scan the sky to lock on to the satellite that will enable us to communicate. During hurricane season, we are required to test the system every Thursday, and once a month out of hurricane season.

The system consists of two laptop computers, two desk phones and two portable phones, in addition to the communications equipment and the dish.
